William James (January 11, 1842 – August 26, 1910) said, “Man can alter his life by altering his thinking.”
In a nutshell, that’s it. To quote Mike Dooley, “Thoughts Become Things.”
I believe that our thoughts are the greatest power in this entire Universe. Each and every one of them is like an incipient event or circumstance, and each and every thought longs to be materialized. The more often you repeat that thought, adding other similar thoughts to it, and allowing your imagination free reign in collaboration with these thoughts, you “grow” them.
As they grow stronger, they begin to attract, from an infinite number of possibilities, the people, places, and events required to become fully realized, or materialized.
This is what happens, whether your thoughts are centered on what you really want to experience in your life, or whether you’re concentrating on what you don’t want…The Law of Attraction is, in a manner of speaking, impersonal.
Since this is the way it works, to me it only makes sense to know what I want in my life, – to get a clear picture of my goals.
In order to do this, I wrote down a list of ten things that I wanted to experience in my life.
Using that list, I began to create affirmations for each of those ten goals.
Now, people use affirmations differently, so I’ll go over some of the basics and then share what works for me on a personal basis. Remember, though, we’re all different and the system that works well for one person might need some tweaking to work for you.
The Law of Attraction And Affirmations
One of the fastest ways to kick The Law of Attraction into high gear is through the use of affirmations, which I like to think of as strong declarations of intent.
I use a very simple system to do this, too.
I write, on a 3×5 index card, my goal as if it has already taken place. I keep it short and sweet. This is pretty important, because I’ve met some people who’ve tried to use affirmations and complained that they didn’t work, and when they shared what they had written with me, it was far too long and complex to be considered an affirmation.
Now, when you write down your goals at first, writing down a full explanation or description of it can be very helpful, – but the next step is to turn it into an affirmation, something that can usually be said in one sentence, without running out of breath.
Some powerful tips for affirmations are:
- Write it in the present as if it is in the process of happening now, or in the past tense, as if it has already happened. For example: “I am happily married to my soul mate,” or, “I have been showered with blessings and riches galore.”
- Generally speaking, you should use the personal pronoun, “I”, as in, “I am,” or “I have.”
- Depending upon what you want, one extremely powerful world you can use is, “My” or “Mine.” For some reason, depending upon your own psychological makeup, this pronoun can be incredibly helpful to people who’ve had trouble getting affirmations to work for them using the personal pronoun, “I”. “Mine” is a sneaky way to circumvent certain psychological blocks that some of us have built around our belief systems. Some examples would be affirmations like: “My new job pays me a lavish monthly income.” (You can fill in the amount if you prefer).
Then, at least once a day, sit down with your 3×5 card and read the affirmation you’ve written either out loud or to yourself. Concentrate on the words you’ve written, but if your mind wanders a little, at least try to direct it to follow what you’re affirming. Do this for five or ten minutes only. In fact, a lot of people find it hard to do for longer than five minutes, but most of us can manage that short period of time.
This is a very powerful way to start a new train of thought. Remember, the affirmation you’ve written down is a thought that originated in your mind. By re-reading it, out loud or to yourself, you are thinking those same thoughts over and over again.
Eventually, what will happen is that as you say, and therefore think, these thoughts repeatedly, your imagination will start to kick in, and in a short time you will begin to visualize your desire as being already present in your life.
This is the best part, because our imaginations are our lifeline between the invisible world where every possibility for fulfillment exists, and our material, or real, world.
So, we use affirmations to start a new train of thought, and that new train of thought will bring us to the point of visualizing what we want.
As we use our imaginations to visualize the fulfillment of our desires, we automatically begin to feel the way we will feel once our desire has actually materialized.
I find that this is the chain reaction that works for me. Please let me know if your experiences are different.
